color case needed for hammer
« on: December 23, 2024, 05:20:10 PM »
I have an Alex Henry rifle that came with a hammer that is not correct.   I have a correct replica hammer that is going out today for engraving.

Once the hammer is engraved it will need to be color cased.   Where would you send a hammer?   I used to always use Custom Color out of IL, but looks like they are no longer.

thanks

Bill Graham at Nice Old Doubles in NC does nice work,  is reasonable and usually has a quick turn around. He has a facebook page that shows his work. 919-270-3014

Allen Springer in MT, his work is just like Bill’s.  406-374 2569

I have sent several pieces up to Tom Snyder in Hancock, Mi for a CCH job.  All have been excellent.  He was at the CLA show this past summer and said that he is still doing that work.

You probably already know this or be planning for this, but you may want to sent the lock plate in with the hammer for color case, just to preclude a visually jarring difference in case colors and patterns between the hammer and lock plate.

Turnbull was the first I thought of, but also thought it might be too modern, bright & too much blue?
I assume the the colours might be adjustable with the added ingredients? question

The hammer's color will be knocked down to match the lock panel.

I’ve only used Wyoming Armory in Cody,Wyoming but they have been great. No warping, nice color but not gaudy and fast turnaround.

Tom Snyder has already been mentioned, but I want to add that his color case "coloration" will be closer to period correct than many others.
