Help with ID / information on
« on: December 28, 2024, 10:38:25 PM »
Hi all I’m hoping to get an ID of this rifle that has been in my family since the 1950s. My grandfather got this when he bought a house in New Hampshire. Since then it has either been in a NH basement, garage or mounted over the fireplace at my parents house… So it has not been treated well at all.

This rifle is approximately 52.5” long.
Barrel is 37 3/8” long roughly 1/2” bore (I don’t have calipers)
Trigger / hammer work
Very slim front and rear sight
Metal ramrod
No makers name anywhere but two “395” on trigger and barrel wrap
No proof marks on exposed barrel (have not taken it apart)

Any information would be greatly appreciated!

You have a model 1854 Austrian Lorenz rifle. Many were sold to Union regiments for use in the Civil War.

Would this Austrian rifle have the Tige or Delvinge breech?
