Two horns

A days filing. Can someone tell me what era the brown horn could fit into, it just ended up looking like that. I love making horns, and then taking forever to finish them. Happy new year!

Hi JH- I can't answer your question about the period for your horn, but I just had to say what beautiful work you do. You obviously love the craft and have mastered it !

This style is seen in some horns from the 1700s but the horns are usually longer and larger.

 Very well done, your file work is exceptional, the finished product will be well worth the time. The tip on the "Brown" one reminds me of a "Lancaster Co. style, I would think a rounded Pine butt with a staple would work.

 8) 8) 8)... great work... the darker one is what we always referred to as a "bottle tip"... I do not know where the design originated, but I have one that has been passed down in my family for generations probably since the early 1800's.. my folks were all from Western North Carolina and East Tennessee, so I figure it was made there in that era... here is a photo of it ... the base plug was missing When I got it about 60 years ago from my Grandmother, and I made a new one out of black walnut... the bottle tip design is my favorite, and I have seen it on several known horns from this country... interested to see it finished... best wishes,, regards...
