Jug Choke Kibler Fowler 16 GA ?
« on: January 25, 2025, 03:49:11 AM »

Has anyone attempted a jug choke on a Kibler 16 GA fowler?

I measure the wall thickness of the barrel at the muzzle at about .080.
Is that enough thickness to safely ream a jug choke (assume at least that thick further back from the muzzle)?

Thanks

Hal

It is a little thinner back from the muzzle at the smallest part of the barrel.  Somewhere in the vicinity of .065".  The jug choke should be in front of this, though.  I don't have first hand experience jug choking yet, but I believe you'll enough material.

Maybe jug choking could be an option for future kits.

But gents, with the right load you don't Need a jug choke.
Yes maybe if shooting at 50 to 60 yards, but not otherwise.

I agree, jug choking is only needed if you’re too lazy to develop an optimum load.

Developing a load for an unchoked barrel doesn't give bragging rights. ;D

Some people cut jug chokes TOO deep, trying to make their guns shoot like modern shotguns.
The jug choke I made in my little .44 smoothbore, approx. .005" deep & it was shooting great patterns.
I even won a trap shoot, shooting from the 16 yard line on a regular trap range - 10 for 10. Probably
couldn't do that today.  :) This was at rendezvous, back in the 80's (afaik)

Ask a jug choker. I don’t mean the guy squeezing a whiskey jug.

Hey Hawg. I contacted the good folks at Kibler’s a few months back and inquired about the same. They didn’t give a yay or nay on it and they certainly didn’t close the door on the idea. So it appears they have considered it. Maybe in time.
