So what I'm looking for here is a barrel *already inlet* into a stock blank w/ rammer groove and hole. And definitely not a hole with a half inch of wood between hole and barrel!!! Let's keep it slender.
Barrel: Smoothbore barrel at least 48" long, longer out to maybe 51/52 may be even better. Oct/rd or full round, want min. 1 1/16 breech but not a heavy barrel, so faster taper/thinner walls running out from the breech. Say .60 cal on up through maybe .69. Anything bigger is likely to get too chunky.
Stock: plainer wood preferred, pref. maple but birch or beech might work too. Might consider cherry but I think maple is really the preference here.
$450-500 on up which I'm sure is kind of lowball here but will have to discuss all depending on wood and barrel.
I also have MANY stocks/barrels already inlet for potential trade fodder (rifle barrels) as well as a couple of solo smooth barrels I'd consider trading not currently in stocks, including one of those big honking Colerain Bess barrels w/ plug (not fitted) and a Rayl oct/rd .62 that's 48" long. That's what I'm going to use if I can't find one already in a stock ready to go.
Let me know what you have - have to reiterate, I'm not looking for more expensive figured wood.
