Very plain, early smooth/rifle

This may not look like much to many here but, I really like it.  I just recently acquired this gun and it fascinates me.  The lock is a converted American Germanic style lock.  This type lock was used on American longrifles in the 'golden age' period of rifle building in the US.  It has a fowler style butt plate but also has a rifle trigger guard, sideplate and nosecap.  It also has rifle sights.  The smooth bore measures about .50 caliber.  The workmanship is quite nice and, despite being a bit beat up, still has much of it's original varnish.  The stock is curly maple.  Back in the day, if you could only have one gun, the smooth/rifle made a lot of sense.  I love them.

Wow that had some use, I don't think it hung around over the fire place much, that one was out hunting and earning it's keep.
