Don't know the maker but my guess is Hampshire County Virginia.A very similar box is on a gun attributed to William Britton.Tough to tell from the pic but the rifle doesn't look like his work.I can get a pic of the Britton box if your interested.

Here is a few more pics to help ID the maker of this rifle. J S signature. was told maybe Jacob Sheetz but does not look like anything of his I have seen.Was told maybe South Western Virginia??Kinda looks Ohio???any help would be appreciated.
