It never occured to me! I like the chiseled look in the mortice. I have never ever even burnished the outside of the gonne, let alone the inside. The last gonne I built was a matchlock, so I scraped the stock before staining and finishing. I loved the scraped look. I did it as nicely as I could, but I did not want it too smooth. I always got too frustrated tring to make the outside look good.
