Tow for Wadding and Cleaning Smoothe Guns

For those who use tow for wadding and cleaning, what type due you use? Do you use the loose short ends or the combed out and cleaner roving?

I started out with just having access to the roving. The rougher loose proved to clean better and I have of late been using the same loose to wad with as well.
