New turkey gun
« on: March 10, 2010, 07:21:42 PM »
Just finished the fowler I've been working on this winter, certainly different than the other few guns I've built.  Used a colerain 44" Oct/Rd 16ga barrel, Chambers Virginia lock, all steel furniture and a very plain, light piece of maple.  Played around with the black paint on the stock and the blue/bleach on the metal to give it a very light antiquing, am very pleased with how that came out.  Fun project for a change of pace, of course the real fun will begin in early April when I look down that bore at a big ole gobbler!    ;D

Very nice!
I really like the tang carving design. Very Chaumette'ish.

Nice gun Osprey.

I just finished up a fowler with the same barrel with a walnut stock and a Chambers round faced english lock.  I had mine jug choked to modified.

Got out for my initial shots this past weekend.

Started with round balls to figure out my required sight picture, then switched over to shot.

80 grains of ffg and an 80 grain measure of 6's is a bit heavy on the recoil.  The purple is almost gone out of my upper lip now.  Ha!

The gun patterned well though.

I'd like to hear about your testing.

I'll try to post some photos later today.
