Bill large barrel/Davis gun/pix added
« on: March 13, 2010, 11:05:52 PM »
Recently,I ran a cross a Hawken style rifle, with a W Large barrel on it.Its got the JJJJ and an L under that.On the top barrel flat is _  _    Davis ( I think it was E.T.). It is a .58 cal. no patchbox, double key, iron trim, snail style breech, long Hawken style tang, pewter nose cap.I  unloaded it this morn for the guy (old charge) and dropped a light in it and asided from a couple dark spots, the rifleing looks really pretty good.Lock is fully functional. Is this builder familiar to anyone?
Thanx for any input,Dan

Correction it is R.T. Davis

I have to go with Kermit's guess. R.E. Davis was an outfit here in Ohio. To close not to be.

It would be nice to know what lock R.T. Davis used or sometimes used, as I hope to acquire this gun. That is one of the reasons I am curious about the maker, tryin to come up with a relative value or an idea anyways.

The lock and triggers may have been made by Ron Long.  Davis now produces these parts.
