This one went to a new home during the Southern Long Rifle show. Unfortunately I did not get measurements on it before it went.

Tim,
A beauty as usual!! So, are you still ticked off about the comment of "only one ring" on your last horn??? I'll show them, I'll put 5 on this one???
Just kidding..... really nice.

Beautiful horn Tim. I'm impressed every time I see one of your horns.

Very nicely done, I am a big fan of banded horns, especially one as good looking as this one. Dennis

Are bands on horns purely decorative, or do they serve a functional purpose as well ?

My thoughts; Could be both early on a crack at the base during construction may have been covered by a single horn band as a repair. Someone thought it looked good and started putting bands at the base. A single band at the mid point of the horn may have been to protect the horn from ware, that looked good so more bands were added, decoration.
Once again there are my thoughts, I will like to see others ideas. Good question
