Builder located in PA in the 70s-80s
« on: June 04, 2010, 09:28:38 PM »
A couple times I heard mention of a builder located somewhere around Hunlock Township ( Harveyville, Broadway, Hunington Mills area)  All he could remember was he made about 2 guns a year, worked out of a barn in the early 80s.

Sorry I don't have allot to go on, but the location is pretty specific.   Definately close to Hunlock, probably Broadway.  Definately not further south like Shickshinny.

You could probably get an answer from Hart's Gun Shop in Nescopeck.  Back in the 70's Wally was into BP and sold a lot of parts.   I'm not even sure Hart's is still open, but I think it is.  I know there's some old Council Cup Club members on here, give Bob an answer.   ;D

Wally Hart's shop is still there http://www.rwhart.com/ I used to shoot bench rest rifle with Wally. Never knew that he was into blackpowder but maybe he knew the guy you are looking for.

Dennis,  Wally was "THE" supplier of BP parts and Douglas barrels in our area back in the 70's.  By the early 80's he moved on to something else, breeding squirrel dogs if I remember correctly. I'm guessing, but I suspect Wally sold parts before Chuck Dixon.  Is Wally still alive?

Bob243,I live near there and I remember this person. An old gentleman and his wife who lived in the third or fourth house on the right past the intersection in Broadway. Seems to me his name started with an S. He taught me a neat trick for try screws for patchboxes. He soldered a washer into the slot and used them like thumb screws. Sounds like you live near here too. I,m between Cambra and Fairmount Springs but I used to work in Hunlock Creek and sometimes stopped to visit his shop. He died not long after I met him.

Nate, Sounds like it could very well be the same person.

I'm in town, but belong to the range Muhlenburg, and had a good bit of family in the area around Moon lake and along rt29
