As alluded to above, something outside the "school de jour" and a very nice one. Marylands and Yorks seem to get unreasonably short shrift these days compared to Lancasters and others.
Also, I know that "patina" is a controversial technique (and I'm not sure what I really think about it yet
, but I think that this one and Mike's fowler the other day show how it can be used to a distinct advantage in making the piece more accessible aesthetically, at least to me. Not saying this to start an argument (I'm nobody worth arguing with anyway), just relating my reaction: somehow the dissonance between antique style and spanking new appearance frequently can make a gun look "unreal". What was done on this one is very restrained, but I think it is better with it than it would have been without.
