Two Band Horn With Two Part Screw Tip 9710
« on: July 09, 2010, 05:25:44 PM »
This one is about 14" around the outside curve. The Walnut base is about 2 1/2" and is hollowed out. It is held in by four steel pins that also hold the horn band on. The second band was heated and pressed on then pinned with two steel pins. The tip is made in two parts, both antler, the collar screws on to the horn and the tip screws into it, the tip itself is about 3" long. The horn itself was colored with a mixture of dyes and stains, the bands were done with AF, the whole thing was covered with brown shoe polish and buffed with a brush.

I like the idea of both pieces of the tip threaded. Great idea!
Now I have to ask if you used up two small pieces of horn to make one bigger tip? Clever.

Yes two pieces of small horn were used for the tip, some originals were done with two pieces that were pinned together, then pinned to the horn body.
