There are a lot of fine makers of rifles, horns and bags, etc whom I never heard of before. Accoutrements are better than ever before IMHO. I learned the basics of forging iron furniture from Ian. Saw and handled some originals.

Daryl and I weren't able to attend this year, so to better empathize with all of you who had to suffer through that heat, he and I spent three days applying a torch on roof to our cabin at the black powder range. It's only about 30' square, but it was in the sun and temperatures from 85 - 95 F. I've never run off that much sweat in my life, and Daryl emitted twice my volume. I stood in front of that tiger torch and rolled out the roofing while he laid the fire to it. I think I'll change my life style a bit, 'cause I don't think I can handle $#*!.
You were all very much in my thoughts. I know it was a fabulous time for all of you.

Well now, $#*! can't be good although no one that I know ever came back to tell about it... Neither have they come back from heaven to tell us about it. I have heard about the bright light though. I guess all of us will have to wait to find out...!

I have to agree with Rich; it's more fun with our Canadian friends there.

I learned more about how to dothis engraving stuff. Also got additional info on sharpening - both what to use and how to use it.

Oh, I also learned that I can build a good rifle if I pay attention to the details; pictures to follow soon.

Roger, I learned about the white light at the end of our days, too. It was part of a conversation I overheard as Jesse, my 15 yr old son, heard it from one of our esteemed ALR members. But you were not there at the time. So where did YOU hear about this?

I also learned more about the brotherhood of the longrifle. About the deep and wonderful connections that develop slowly over the years.

The last time I could go to Dixon's was the year you attended. Had fun talking with you. I really missed being there this year. I hope I can get there next year. Last time I could only stay 1 day -- I need to make the whole weekend next time. You and Daryl coming next year?

I think I finally learned the proper way to sharpen my tool's thank's to david price.And I also learned if you take your time with one you can get several ribbon's for the same rifle,as one arl member did.And to take the constructive criticism and work from it.And don't be afraid to take your work like I did(with alot of urging from my wife)And found that I got a second place ribbon for first gun contempoary class(with a lot of help and advice from people from this site.)WOW was i shocked! I also learned you can go through a thousand dollars pretty darn fast! Can't wait to start my next one.

Having attended quite a few seminars I learned alot -- I'm still going over my notes while it's relatively fresh. I also learned how to make a steam box, right Stan?

I finally had someone show me what to look for when welding iron with a coal forge. And I believe Bill Shipman Gave me advice on sharpening.( Right arm almost hairless) I learned that although we all may come from different backgrounds, we definately range in ages, we ALL share an amazing love of our history with the American Longarms. I also learned my wife supports my love for wanting to learn as much as possible, she is even starting to show an interest.

Tim,

Regrettably, I was not able to enter my Dauphin County work-in-progress rifle for evaluation/critique. We had to leave midday on Sunday and all pieces entered (in any catagory) had to remain until 3:00 on Sunday. I did learn, however, by looking, listening, photographing and sketching that I still want to take some wood off!

Most definitely! While this was my first Dixons, I thought I had some idea of what to expect having been at Lewisburg last fall. But as you know, Dixons is very educationally oriented; it's much more than a "show". It's a unique opportunity to talk, listen to and learn from the best in the business. Hope you can make it next year, Tim.

I am fairly new to the world of Longrifles and Dixon's was a first for me. I had no idea how big this hobby was. I am from Idaho and it was well worth the time and money to meet some of the people from the ALR and attend the seminars. I really learned alot from the people who took the time to talk and teach at all of the seminars I attended. A very special thanks to Jim Chambers and his family for taking the time to introduce me to several of the people in the trade and answer all my questions. Don Getz replied on this forum that there is nothing else like it in the world and he must be correct. It also was my first time East, you can have your heat and humidity but I will go back! I sure did spend alot of money! I just can't wait for all my stuff to get here. Thanks to everyone. Bob
