24k GOLD SOURCE
« on: August 10, 2010, 05:15:38 PM »
My normal supplier is having some trouble getting me a 5 gram bar of 24 K gold. Anyone got any leads? I need a piece large and thick enough for a pan liner on a Chambers GA lock.

Do you really need a bar?  Do you have a rolling mill and drawplate?
There are a number of refiners catering to the jewlelry trade that sell gold by the pennyweight in sheet or wire form to your specs.

Thanks for the replies

Barbie...this is what I was telling you about yesterday. Thanks for sending the stain and oil finish up too!
I have not seen the size I have wanted, but will check again.

Bill...I do the books for a major coin dealer and can usually get a px break, but this size has been hard to come by.

willpond...I did find a 5 gram. but they are about $100 over market :(

TOF...I was planning on annealing it a tapping it out to meet my needs. I had not considered anything as likened to a rolling mill and draw plate. I just figured to tap out smooth and file off as needed, then sell off my filing for scrape market px. I am approaching this as if it were coin or bar silver and doing what I have done for those materials in past applications... In the shop I have machined surfaced plates I would use as mini anvils. If this is way off base plse let me know.
