sliding wooden patch box

  thinking of butting a sliding wooden patch box on a new build. whats the best way to lay this out. i did two other and had no problem, except this one, as i lay this out, something just ain't right. any ideas

I have found the area the lid will go on needs to be flat, to lay it out correctly. If it is rounded it is hard to get things drawn or dimensionally correct on the rounded surface. Also if it is rounded, to have a properly fitted lid the bottom of the lid would require to be rounded as well, & that is another whole new can of worms. Not that it cannot be done, it is just allot more difficult to do.

Give us a photo to look at so we can see the problem.

I start with paper cutouts that I lay down on the stock to see how it looks.  With a pair of scissors I can make a bunch of profiles and snip away at them until it looks "right".  Then I use the piece of paper that looks 'right" as a tracing pattern to cut out the lid.
