Underlugs - dovetail or staked

Which is preferable? I understand that staked removes less metal and therefore is stronger but I have to admit to being a bit apprehensive about drilling holes into a barrel.

My choice would be underlugs inlet shallow (.025-.030") with the dovetailed edges raised with a chisel.  This is the standard configuration seen original barrels.  Works fine.

Both ways have fans, there may be more folks that are detractors of staples than of dovetail.  The majority of folks probably use dovetails. Done correctly they are both appropriate.

My vote is for dovetails - shallow dovetails to be specific. Never was a fan of drilling holes in my barrels  ;D!

I've done dovetails before and I'm a lot more comfortable with those rather than drilling.
Based on what you all just told me I think I'll just stick with what I know.
