Information Sought on builder "C. Smith" MYSTERY SOLVED!
«

I recently purchased a longrifle signed "C. Smith" on the top flat and "No. 110" on the left side flat by the breech. I purchased the rifle from Jackson Arms in Dallas. Does anyone know of this builder?

Probably Clay Smith - well known builder. I think he posts on here from time to time.

Could be Clay, but I doubt it. He has worked at Williamsburg for years and probably has not built many guns while there. I could be wrong.....just my thoughts..........Don

Having checked out Clay Smith's website via the provided link, I also doubt he made this rifle.
I would think that if this "C. Smith" has really made 110 guns, someone would have heard of him.

Could be Curtis Smith from south west virginia. He makes a nice rifle with usually great figured wood.

Mystery solved. I emailed Clay Smith and here is his reply:
I made it in March 1986 and it sold to G.Gedney Godwin Co. of Valley Forge, PA.
Looks like it's been traveling.
Hope you enjoy it. Thanks for letting me know where it is now.
Clay
Thanks to everyone for their help identifying it.
