New French and Indian War Horn

Hello All and Happy Holidays!

I am new to the forum and wanted to share some pics of my latest horn.  I did a F&I horn based on a notional horn that would have been commissioned by Col Johnathan Bagley during the campaign against the French and Native American allies at Fort William Henry.  I wanted to recreate the style of John Bush who scratched a few of the horns for the soldiers defending the fort.  The Horn has Col Bagley's name on the front and a map taken from an original etching of the fort during the campaign.  It is close to 15 inches long and 2.5 inches in diameter.  It is inked using India ink and the horn has a turned maple plug and dark brown spout.  The body is dyied using a mix of golden yellow/tangerine rit dye.  Over top is a wash of golden yellow mixed with a small amount of dark brown.  It was then aged using dark walnut Minwax with powdered black tempera paint.  What do you think?  Thanks!

I agree with Ron.  The throat was the first thing on that horn that jumped out and caught my eye.  Now that I have looked at the post several times I marvel at the whole horn.

  The more I look the better it gets...The neck work alone is Outstanding. A great study piece for aspiring horners.

Carl, please don't let that horn get any field use with all the nicks, dents and rubbing that would bring. If that showed up at a gunshow with a fair amount of use, I would buy it, without hesitation, as about as fine an example of a French and Indian War horn, as I could ever imagine. It is just gorgeous. Well carved, by the hand of a fine artist!
