Helpfulness of Jim Chambers Kit Build DVD?
« on: November 08, 2010, 08:00:34 PM »
I was thinking of ordering the dvd that JC sells which shows the construction of one of his kits. Has anyone watched this dvd, and if so did you find it very instructive for the building of one of his rifles? I would expect the dvd to be good, given the high quality of his company's other products, but I want to make sure before I spend the $$..

Many thanks and good day to you.

I have a  VHS tape called "Building the Jim Chambers long gun kits" with rifle maker James Turpin that I got several years ago. If you want it, it's yours. However, you will need a machine that plays the old VHS tapes of course. Let me know, Two Hawks

I have it.  It's been really helpful for me...this is my first kit.  Sometimes reading is not enough for me...I actually need to see it done.

Yes there seem to be two instructional videos on building the Jim Chambers kit rifles, one by James Turpin and also a 3-dvd set by Ron Ehlert. I'm glad to hear from you all that they have been helpful.

Although I like to read and learn from books I find watching to be immensely helpful, so I hope to study via the instructional videos from both gunbuilders, in preparation for building a JC Issac Haines longrifle later this fall and winter.

Two Hawks: I have sent a PM to you. I need to see if I still have a VHS player after our recent move!

I have both from Jim and they were well worth the $$.  I have all the usual suspect books, but sometimes it is helpful to see it done 1st hand.  Also you get to see a couple different ways things are done at different stages of the builds.  After the price of the various kits, I think they are short money.

good luck on your build!
