Something doesn't seem quite right. The guy introducing the cannon says it dates to the 1500's, is "terribly old." Percussion caps weren't invented until the first half of the 19th century. IMHO the cannon isn't as old as he thinks or it has been modified.

that looked fun, whether or not the barrels were 500 years old or of a more recent vintage.

Don't know the chap - but he's mistaken.  If it was European - it could be a 12th or 13th century - except it would be match lock ignited.

What he has in his hands, appears to be a Japanese Ninja hand cannon of the mid 19th century. yeah - mid 1800's.

Our buffoon, I mean nimrod, says it is loaded with blanks, then at 1:10 on the video some guy goes walking downrange! There are so many safety problems with this video, proudly presented to the world's public, that if I saw him at my club shoot I'd duct tape his car doors closed so he couldn't even get out.
If the shooting sports do not police themselves, them someone else will be glad to step in and police them for us.

I agree on the first part but don't know anything about the oriental side of such fabrications.

Maybe it was originally match ignited, but drilled and tapped for percussion nipples sometime later?

The TV show Deadliest Warriors had a Ninja or maybe a Chinese 'warrior' faced off with a Pirate or something like that.  The oriental had one of those pole guns, virtualy identical IIRC - & fired by percussion.  In 1400, it would have been fired by a  match - or perhaps as late as 1800.

Hmmm, absent a match, a small pot and flame would have worked to set it off.  Certainly not in it's original configuration if using caps of any kind especially MUSKET caps.

And in credits it says presented by Springfield Arsenal.

Nothing is hard if you have the right equipment and know how to use it.  OR have friends who have both.

Three cheers for those fine fellows at Springfield Arsenal who have taught us a history lesson every bit as valid as what I suspect goes on in public schools these days, no doubt!

Anyone here admit to buying anything from them?
