Don Fulkerson - Gunsmith

Don Fulkerson b.1/20/1925 d.12/3/2010
He was born and raised on a farm in Grundy Co, Missouri. He was married to Mary and they made their home in Newton, Iowa.
An avid horseman and deer hunter, he enjoyed taking his grand kids to Missouri each year, getting them setup in the timber and waiting for their shot to ring out to put meat in the freezer.

Don enjoyed building muzzle loaders and completed several for his family. His specialty was brass faced locks and putting a high polish on the face of both the lock and the recipient.

Don was a very close friend to Steve Bookout of Toadhall Rifleshop in Newton, Iowa. You can find a picture of him on Steve's website holding a rifle of his own creation.

Sorry I missed you when I was down to see Don.  He was a good guy. Passionate about guns. How is Mary doing?

tim,
Mary is doing good. She is strong willed and has a lot of family to support her.

Don had many memories that were shared by everyone. There was a bunch of photos of Don's life and his family enjoying events like horseback riding, fishing and deer hunting. Marta, his daughter, had her rifle and a fishing pole at Don's side for his funeral.

A couple of years ago, I had asked Don if I could take pictures of the muzzleloading rifles he had built for his grandkids and other family members that he still had at his house. I am quite glad I got the opportunity to do so.
