Changing a pipe hawk handle

Good afternoon all,

I need some help from the experts. I have a Beaver Bill pipe hawk. Its an early English with curly maple handle and some bead work & turkey beard attatched. I would like to remove it and replace with an ash or hickory handle so that I can take it out for carry into the field. Right now its just too nice looking and I don't want to scratch up the handle. So, my questions would be where can I find an ash or hickory handle thats already drilled? and second, how to remove this one without damaging it?

I think you're better off just getting a whole new tomahawk.....

The handle has to pass out through the eye of the head.  In doing this, it's probable that all the decoration that is above the plain of the wood, will be damaged, if not ruined.  RE Davis sells heads, and handles for your purpose.

If it were me, I'd just buy another plain one for woods use.
