I think you are talking about Charles Lee. He was an interesting fellow. I first met him when I was 15 or so and he was in his early 80's. He passed away 15 years ago or so. I believe he was born around the turn of the last century. I did not know him really well but he did he did help me out a time or two when I first got started. I showed up at his place one day with a stuck minie ball, I forgot to add powder. We could not pull the minie so he took out the breech plug and pushed it through. I tried to pay him but his answer was "I don't mind helping a fellow out every now and then".
He was a modern gun smith, built a few muzzleloaders and also shot NSSA back in the 1960's.
He told me a story once. His grandfather was home on military leave and took his son (CV Lee's dad) outside and told him to put his ear to the ground. C V's dad said he could hear the rumble of cannon. This was during the battle of Gettysburg. His Grandfather was in the 7th West Virginia company C. The only reason I remember this is because my GG Grandfather was in company D.
