york screw tip & bag
« on: January 06, 2011, 03:42:51 AM »
Just finished the entire project.  I made the large York Co horn up at the Village Restoration with Art DeCamp and Rowland Cadle.  It has a maple plug with a Roman key design surrounding the plug and a carved rope pattern near the staple.  The horn and tip have been colored with Rit Dye.  I know that the pick and brush are not very fancy, but I think it compliments the design of the bag and the color of the horn.  The brush is turned horn with horse hair bristles.  The forged chain has a Cherokee infinity design connected by a simple round link.  The forged pick has a nice twist and a shell design that finishes off the loop that connects to the chain.  It is attached to the bag with a pewter button.  The bag was made for me by leather journeyman Jim Leach.  The outside is covered with Brindle cow hide with a green felt border while the inside is lined with white and brown ticking fabric.  The front is hand-embossed with a pheasant and German/Dutch hex designs and leaves.
