Easy off for stain
« on: January 04, 2011, 08:19:44 AM »
I just read a post about easyoff on cherry. This pistol is cherry with easy off stain then hand rubbed with a dilluted walnut stain & finisher by rubbing ona few coats of spar varnish.

I will continue to beat the dead horse.
First, that looks real nice.  I like it a lot.
You can get a similar effect simply by rubbing in a couple or three coats of BLO.  If you want it darker than the BLO will make it you can add a little of the walnut stain to the BLO.  Then coat it with your finish when the BLO is thouroughly absorbed and dry.
And you won't take a chance on your harsh bases eating your nice brass furniture.
