Over the Comb Tang Question
«

Gentlemen
I was reading the tutorials getting ready to do a over the comb tang.... I have one quick question that I did not see mentioned.... how thick and how wide is the tang after the second screw?
Thanks for doing a great job on the tutorial.... going to give it a try on the rifle I'm building now.

Going from memory - from the barrel back 2" top flat width then step down to about 1/4"and tapering to 3/32 or so at the very end, the taper running right thru the screw boss.
As to thickness the whole tang is about 3/16 thick the whole length. That is thick enough to keep the end of the tang from springing out of the comb.
BTW - extra draft on the front of screw boss as while inletting the boss seems to creep toward the comb nose the deeper its inlet and settles into place. Take your time and it'll turn out great

Chris,
Glad to hear you are going to do one and the tutorial was of some help. They are intimidating but the results are well worth the effort.
Please post some pics and let us know how it turns out.
Cheers,
Ken

Thanks, that helps out a bunch.
I read and use the tip in the tutorials frequently... last week I hand cut dovetails and made my own underlugs from brass... they turned out OK... We need one on making a double based front sight... hint ...hint ...
Thanks again

Thanks Chris. I think you pretty well got them all.
I'll try this weekend to move the main thread to the tutorial section and put a link to the other two in the thread somewhere.
Cheers,
Ken
