Hi all;  I recently finished a long gun for a nephew. He sent me way more than I quoted so he gets some extras. I made all these extras to go in the oak case that I made for the gun Hunting bag, brass oil bottle & 2 grease tubs, patch knife , Three piece cleaning rod with jag, Flint wallet , bullet bag, and turn screw to fit the tang & lock bolts. Gun pics to follow

Greybeard,

Very nicely done! I especially like the take down cleaning rod and the brass bottles.

Ummm... any way you might share how you made the brass bottle and tubs?

Hi Al. Nice to hear from you. I bought some quite thick walled brass tubeing . Cut off a section the chosen length. On the lathe I made a tube and bored a hole in it and threaded the iutside and cut it off in 3/8th lengths/. Silver soldered them onto thinner sheet brass cut out juat a tad bigger than the tubeing. Drill out the hile after the threadded patt was soldered Tin and soft sioder that to one end of the tube Cut a piecefor the bottom and wrap the top th some heat sinc stuff that I have and soft soldes the botton on. Trim the exsess with shears and polish the bit thats left on a disc sander..  I turn up the cap on my lathe , bore it to tap drill size and tap the threads with a hand tap then solder in a piece for the dipper and flatten the end on a small anvil. add a cork washer and Bob's yer Uncle.
Take care and bless.  Bob

Greybeard,

Thanks for the mini-tutorial! That's simple enough, somehow I had complicated the process to include hydraulic presses and NASA engineers...
