birchwood casey gun stock wax on barrel?
« on: January 16, 2011, 12:15:55 AM »
I read a lot of guys use wax, car wax, floor wax, and such on the barrel bottom for protection against rust. Anybody use gun stock wax by birchwood casey? I am thinking about waxing the barrel and then smearing bear fat and beezwaz on the barrel before putting it back in the stock, anything wrong with this idea? On the other hand, I have never had a rust problem just oiling the heck out of the barrel before putting it back in the stock. I don't plan to take the barrel out but maybe once a year, unless it gets rained on. thanks, chuck

i have used it,works fine as does car wax. about once a year i take the barrels out of my guns and give everything a good coat of wax, barrel, barrel chanel and lock inlet and the finish of course.

David.
I have been using it on guns for years, really any good wax that has carnuba wax in it good for wood, metal, also leather. It sometimes
makes a high shine, violin finish, depending on the finish you have on your wood.

I have also used wax on the bottom of my barrel where it is not exposed. I have a Lyman GP rifle and when I take it apart to clean it I give her a coat after the barrel gets cleaned.

I have also used bore butter when wax was unavailable.
