Shooting Bag
« on: January 30, 2011, 01:04:27 AM »
I made this bag from thin veg tan leather. I stained it with walnut hull dye and finished it with neatsfoot oil. It's made in the style of the Richard Allen bag. In the pictures it looked to me that the original bag is wider than it is deep so I made this one 9"x8". I did not have a piece of horn to make the button with so I used an antler tip. The strap is 1 1/2 inch wide.

Thanks for the compliments. This close-up shows the color from the walnut hull dye better. On this bag I sewed the bag together first then dyed it by painting the dye on with  0000 steelwool. On the bag before I stained the parts first in a vat of dye then sewed the parts together. With the vat dying the color was more even. Either way it seems to not rub off/out when I oiled the bags.
