Walt,
Making a repair match can be really difficult if you don't have the original stain that was use in the first place. You are going to need to do some practicing on the wood in the barrel channel to find the stain that gives the best results and only then proceed with the touch up. I have seen some that can blend in a finish so you would never know it was done in the first place. Knowing what was used on the stock is a starting point. I know some would just strip off the outer finish and start over on the whole thing. You need to ask your self then how important is having this stock looking pristine or functional. The blending of stains can be an art unto its self.  I have not mastered it yet but know several that can do amazing things with it. Practice before you jump in on the final and you will be better prepared and your project will better off for it.

I don't think TC used any stain, just whatever finish they used, I would try TruOil It has that semi shiny TC quality .If you don't like the match it really isn't that big a deal to remove and replace the entire finish on a Renegade That way you are sure of consistent finish.

I've had good luck matching TC's (probably sprayed on) finish with Tru-Oil.  You can get carried away with it, and make the repair look better than the rest of the rifle, though... ;D

I have cut checking into T/C stocks and only use a bit of the original oil finish Jim Chambers sells. It matches color wise well and the finish can be built up and matched. No stain is on a T/C IMHO.
