Peep sights

Some where I lost all of my photo of peep sights. Looking for some photos  so I can work something up for a original target rifle that I own. Needs to have a flat spring bar  going back to the peep This is a gun that was made most like in Cincinnati Oh area. It has a newer old tube sight on it now.

If you sort through the posts and "older posts" here, you'll see various "peep" sights installed on underhammers, but they'll give you some ideas.

Pics of the peep sight on a very early New England style target rifle.  It may not conform to our modern day idea of period correct.  It is an original non the less.

Joe,aint it the truth, some of those old time gunsmiths were the most ingenious people on earth. That is one great old time sight.   Smylee

The one I have on it now is on that line but for the Indain head penny and it is on a 10 or 12 screw size  post.

It appears the eyecup was cobbled together by some owner during the life of the rifle.
The guy that made the rest of the sight did not make that thing.

Sometime the owner wanted a rifle that would shoot for him.  The sight does appear to be cobbled and it would be difficult to date the add on, but it was added on for use.  Some of the add ons are about as important as the original condition.  Interesting.
