French and Indian War Horn Done!
« on: February 06, 2011, 04:34:04 AM »
Hey All,
Here is the F&I horn that I have been working on.  The horn has been given an aged appearance and has a turned maple plug with a staple.  Both the spout and the plug have been stained a dark brown.  The plug is secured using 5 hand-forged square pins.  I rubbed some of the areas to give it a sense of wear.  The overall length is about 17 inches.  The obverse side has the name Johannes Myerink, his horn Lake George Octr 6 1758.  The script is inspired by John Bush and the sylized floral design on the revers was taken from two of his horns from the period.  I think it turned out pretty good.  Thanks for everyone staying with me as I went through the steps.

Really really nice work. Once you've hacked your way through a horn you have  a mich deeper appreciation for work such as yours.

WOW!  The design and proportions are outstanding and that was a really great choice of horn. What a finish, not only on the horn but the finished product, it looks very believable. Excellent workmanship.

Simply Superb!  Great lines, your lettering is spot on and I just love the shape of that spout.

I was looking at some of my powderhorn books, and your horn would fit in anywhere in any of the books. You did a real nice job on your skrimshaw work and on the horn too and the color is great , fine work !!!.......Mike Norin
