It was stated that I said there is no engraving on the toeplate.  That is
not correct.  The toeplate is engraved.  Gun in hand, the wood on this
rifle is period to the era the gun was made, not only is it brittle, it has
correct patina and shrinkage and the inside of the lock mortise is black with age.  If it was restocked, the first owner must have fallen in the woods and
broken the original stock within a very few years of acquiring it new.

Have you checked for double pin holes in the guard and thimbles?  Might provide some insight.

As further support for this being an original Kuntz family rifle, I present
three photos of a signed Adam Kuntz rifle.  Note the trigger guard,
cheeck/stock architecture and sideplate.
