We might be able to shoot on our field prone - maybe mid June!  We get 7 months of winter, and 5 months of poor tobogganing.  Looks like lots of fun...thanks for the pics.

York was definitely an experience and I plan on making it a yearly one. We did have a good contingent from Ontario (15 people I think). The photos are of the 1st relay. At the end of the second relay the clouds opened up and we were all soon in rain gear or huddled under canopies for the awards ceremony.

Pictures kind of give you an idea of what it's all about.   Sure was a lot of fun while I was still doing it, really miss it.........

 I think that the photos show one guy shooting seated with a chunk consisting of a log standing lengthwise mounted on a board for a base. That might be a way to get back into it without all of the up and down.

HA! - didn't notice that one - second one in - shot sitting.  Certainly not an advantage at all. 
Anyone who's tried to shoot gophers while on a chair & using cross sticks knows that - prone with rest is steadier. We had a parapalegic shooter last year who shot the chunk shoot at Hefley from his wheelchair.  He did get a third place - I was surprised. Second and thrid were separated by .001" in a 10 shot string. I can't see that happening very often.

I like that mini sawhorse, I was down on the lower end and didn't see much of the upper side.

Doc Wilhite was actually shooting "over the log". He used a hollow log as his chunk.

That sure is the camera angle; but sure looks like a looooong 60 yards.  Would like to see more of the spotters used.  I favor a 4 inch square of black.black paper on white white paper myself. With a 6'Oclock hold...works for me (sometimes)

 I heard someone say that the line was 70 yards from the target fence, but I don't know if that is fact. I do know that my spotter seemed small.
 Here is the best picture that I have of the spotters. If it isn't clear enough, I could email it to you full size. My spotter is the doughnut two over from the red shirted shooter.

The range is set at 60 yards and the folks who set it up are pretty careful to keep it at that distance. You are right about the spotters being small. This year mine had a 3" center and 7" outer ring. Just wish I could hit it a little more regularly!

No two chunks alike!   Looks like the only requirement is that it hold up the open end of the barrel.

The fence reminds me of an old boy who told the tax man that his front porch was 1 pallet wide and 3 pallets long.    He wasn't kidding either!
