Case hardening hook and tang breech

Hi Folks,
Is it safe to case harden the breech plug portion of a flint hook and tang breech? The tang portion will be case hardened after engraving and I would like to harden the hook so it doesn't wear. Is that safe or even desirable?

Hi Jerry,
Thanks. That is exactly what I will do.
