To give you an idea of value of some silver dollars.  I just sold seven to buy an Allen Martin rifle at auction.  Think about that a second, it's probably what it would have cost around 1790, or maybe a bit more, as a new built rifle back then.

Rolf is right about hitting on coins that  are red hot. I heated up a quarter once till she was red and then gave it good whack with a hammer. Never did find all the pieces. That quarter cost me $2.  JZ

Bill- I'm guessing that these weren't just any old silver dollars in well used condition?
