What is the maximum smoothbore size for a 7/8" octagon barrel?

maybe .54, but I like fat breeches.  For light weight I prefer an octagon to round barrel 1" or wider at the breech.  Better balance, probably lighter.

I think it may depend on who makes the barrel. I have seen one .54 in 7/8. I tried to get one and was told .50 cal. was the largest for a 7/8" by two barrel makers. The one I wanted was not swamped. I had to go to 15/16 to get the .54. Bob
