Old bag and horn

Just aquired this horn and bag from a friend thought I would post it.



The horn is 10' around the curve fairly thin and appears to be scraped ;perhaps with a bit of glass.



The little bag is very dark brown and is a single pouch with a short fringed welt The horn has a bug hole ; probably should just leave it as is. The bag body is fairly sound but I will probably put the under glass for display .
Not sure what I've got here?

What's in the bag? Nice acquisition, by the way. Mid 1800s most likely, or a little earlier. Probably used with a percussion squirrel rifle: of perhaps a smaller caliber. Does your friend know what he did by letting this one go? Thanks for showing it to the folks here.

Thanks for the Comments The bag was empty :'(  On that short list of very best friends Dave has always been right at the top. His intrests while old time run more to hand forged traps and Marbles Knives. He keeps an eye pealed for stuff I like.

I also have questions about the strap attachment. Would it be possible to show the strap attachments with the flap open? Great little bag and horn. Thanks for showing it.

Nice outfit.  What a "worm hole" in the horn.  Definitely early, or the worms could not have created such a cavity.  I too would be interesed in seeing a shot of the bag from the side and the back.  Thanks for sharing as I am always looking to see how the old timers built their bags.

Nice bag, it looks like the straps are sewn to 'ears' of the side of the bag.  Most likely the 'ears' are part of the welt?

Thanks For all the comments. The method of strap attachment may be an effort to make small bag lay close to the body? It is a bit unusual.

Frank I'm in North Central Indiana. as is my friend who gifted me with it. not much Information; but all I have for now.
