This rifle appears to be original percussion fullstock with an interesting steel triggerguard. The steel triggerguard is screwed to the bottom of the stock rather than inlet and pinned. No evidence that an earlier guard was ever inlet to the stock. Lock is marked "H. O. Wilds", small caliber unmarked barrel.
The patchbox is a dead on ringer to one I saw on a rifle at the Baltimore show marked C.S. The owner indicated it was a Charles Slaysman. Chandler's
Patchboxes book shows very similar patchboxes used by Gumpf and Gibbs.
Additionally, the other rifle in the one photo is marked F. Smith on the lock and has beautiful workmanship. That rifle has an interesting stock in that both
sides are mirror images of each other. Both have the cheekpiece and star.
Comments appreciated on that as well. I thought it very unusual. Saw another rifle by that maker at Lewisburg which had normal stock.
