1st Banded Horn
« on: April 13, 2011, 02:47:21 AM »
I am fairly new to this thread.  Been hanging around the Horner's Bench for some time.  I promised Carl Dumke I would post pics of my banded horn when I finished it.

No glue...only beeswax and very little of that..this one is airtight. Still need to pin the base and rings but need to pick up material to do so.  I am truly happy with the results although I know I have a long way to go yet.

Horn is 15" on the outside curve (overall) and 12 1/2" on the inside curve (overall)
Plug is 2" deep (hollow on inside) Black walnut with incorporated finial.  Wood came from a tree on my property.
Applied tip is 1 3/4" north American whitetail antler
Bands are dyed horn.

John,
Beauty of a horn!  Love the curve and the bands.  What did you stain the tip with--how did the antler take the stain?  Great job my friend!

Stained the tip with Dark brown liquid RIT with a dash of vinegar.  Took the stain real quick and even color.  Thanks for the compliments.
