FYI: For everyone coming to Nelder Grove (May 12-15), here is the scenario (courtesy of Mr Jones and myself) This year I want to challenge all to make an effort to keep in character as much as possible and there will be certain "incentives" to do that... Lets have some fun with this one!!!!
It is May, 1782
Cornwallis surrendered to Washington on October 17, 1781 but British General Clinton still holds New York. The British stubbornness does not easily admit defeat but hostilities have ceased while the diplomats attempt to resolve the war. Regardless, the feeling in the Southern States is the war is over and the peace talks would soon cause a total British withdrawal. Militia and Continental Soldier recruitments are expiring and veterans are heading home to pick up the pieces. Many are returning to farms and homes burnt out by vengeful Tories or confiscated by uncaring bankers and lawyers. Now they are facing the prospect of starting over with only a pocketful of Continental dollars not worth the paper they are written on. Many are heading West with the hopes of free land and a new start.
Thus we find ourselves at Prather Station, a way stop in the mountains on the way to Ken-tuk-ee. Established before the War, the station has since fallen into ruin because Prather himself, went to do his duty. Never much more than a small lean-to, it is located at a crossroad for those on their western migration and a good place to rest and exchange news. Now Prather has returned with son Josh, a grown man, and is deciding whether to resurrect the Station or head west himself. Regardless, it will be a good place for a few weary souls to gather and make plans and exchange news.
best regards,
K
