sharping a chisel

  whats the best way to sharpen a "V" chisel? just can't seem to get the darn thing right.

There is a machine that is great for sharpening carving chisels. It is the Worksharp & it cuts sharpening time immensly. The main reason for this is that it allows you to see the edge that you are working on. I always sharpened successfully on stones before but his machine is great.
