started miniature F&I horn

Hello all,
I saw a couple of minature banded/paneled horns at the HCH meeting in March and I wanted to try and make/engrave a miniature F&I horn. My wife is crazy for primiatives and minatures, so this will be a neat present for her. A friend of mine gave me a small calf horn--started out at 7" along the curve. I have cut almost 1" off to create the lobe. I have finished the carving and coloring the spout that has some panel work near the tip. It measures about 2 inches. The horn is very thin, so it took a lot of care to keep from carving through the horn. The plug is turned maple and I went ahead and aged it. It won't have a final fit until I finish the entire horn. I have lined in the engrailed engraving--still wanting to stick with my Lake George/Bush-like style. This will be a challenge considering the very small size engraving and detail required... More to follow!

I really like what you've done so far. Small "miniature" horns are really fun to do but you have to have a horn with the right shape and proportions to get it to come out right. Nice work

Nice little horn, Carl. I've always liked those "Lip" horns.

Looking good Carl. I see what you were saying about the challenge in engraving. I think you are up to the task though. Looking forward to the finished piece.

A friend of mine has built several miniature working flintlocks--a miniature bag and horn to go with one of them would really be sweet. Great work on this horn--I really like it.
