I was practicing inleting a barrel into a junk piece of wood.  I was doing the final inleting of the barrel and decided to rap the barrel in sand paper and sand out the barrel channel. it work very well.    any one else doing this?

I suppose if you plan on bedding the barrel this is a good idea. There really should not be enough space for 120 grit paper to wrap around your barrel. Now if you have fixed up a smaller barrel to use with paper that measures the size of the final goal should work great to clean things out. I never used sand paper on my barrel channels just my planes and Chisels.
