Already long ago, from when we sold our vote to no man, the People have abdicated our duties; for the People who once upon a time handed out military command, high civil office, legions — everything, now restrains itself and anxiously hopes for just two things: bread and circuses. -Juvenal

That was a great early collection. I had heard of it as a kid, but didn't know that it was up in Iowa. Dillin has a number of photos of rifles from the Woodmansee collection. In the 1940s a number of the big eastern collections were purchased by Jim Servern of Santa Ana, CA. He published some mighty fine catalogs featuring those guns. He sold them all over the place and I have seen a few here and there. I have a side hammer rifle featured on the plate showing two of these guns, near the front of the book. A Morrison is displayed in the top view and I have the one below that. Don't recall if this collection was one that came west or not. In any case this is great old article that gives us some recent history. Thank you for posting it.
