I made this .50 cal 44" swamped barreled flintlock for the Texas Army to present to George Bush It was made early in his first term. The Texas Army had a rifle made for President Reagen,  by my friend Chris Hirsch, and it was presented to him in the White house by Chris and some others of the Texas Army I don't remember the year but the event was pictured on the front page of the American Rifleman.
Thinking to repeat that type of event I was chosen to make this rifle for GW Bush when I was finished we called the NRA and told them our wishes. The NRA contacted the White House but the White House never responded. Again later the NRA contacted the White House with the same response
A year or so later I contacted our US Congressman Ted Poe who inturn contacted the Bush people and I don't believe he received a responce eather. So then we tried the friend of a friend approach and got the responce that he was busy and that we could mail it if we wanted.By that time (several years down the line) I became discusted with the whole thing and began to try and figure out my next step. I'm thinking of contacting the NRA museum or perhaps some other museum and see if they might want it.

The silver patchbox and initial plate are almost pure silver as are the star and fish.. The patchbox shows two eagles one looking to protect abroad one looking to protect at home. The barrel is charcoal blued with 13 .999 gold stars in let in the barrel. There is a Liberty bell inlayed in the charcoal blued lock made of copper as is the original Libertybell. Lady Justice is engraved on the trigger guard.Liberty's torch is engraved on the back of the flint cock. There is a large silver star inlet in the right side of the stock and three silver fish (for the holy trinity) inlaid along the forearm.

The seventh grade class of Ft. Bend Christian academy named the rifle " The Texas Trinity" because of the star and  three fish. There is an eagle holding olive branches and arrows on the cheek piece. Since I got full reign to design this rifle I engraved" In God We Trust" on the lock plate

That's something I didn't add we proofed the barrel with 2 balls and 200 ffg and then shot it at a target on three occasions and she one holes at 50 yards. Now it's to fancy to drag into the woods .I did a wheellock like that I wanted one to hunt with but there was a small knot in the stock so I put an ivory rose over the hole ,the rose looked so lonesome that I put alittle wire along with it . Then bone and more ivory and more wire, and some dragons and dogs and deer  until it's covered and way to fancy to take into the woods so I started another wheelock. This has to be a mental disorder

Fellows,

A craftsman Citizen of our great Nation ignored to that degree...
I don't know what to think of it.

The rifle is a real beauty. Wonderful motifs, and meanings. Thank you for your efforts, and thank you for sharing it with us!
