Help with Kentucky Rifle Identification and Value Please
« on: July 09, 2011, 10:44:43 PM »
My siblings and I inherited this old rifle and we know nothing about it. I only know that the previous owner said that he paid someone to do some restoration work on it.
On top of the barrel it has "J. FORDNEY. LANCASTER PA" engraved on it.
We would like to know about what it's worth so we can trade these inherited guns equally between us.

A Jacob Fordney rifle is a welcome addition. There is a Casper Fordney in the Library.
Pictures must be hosted on another site such as "photobucket" or shutterfly and then the URLs pasted into the thread you create in ALR. Also you can send them to me via email and I will post them for you. This site is primarily educational but many will likely offer you an estimate. Its value should be significant if as anticipated..

I'm trying to figure out how to post more pics. Is there a limit on how many I can post? These are large pics. Is there a way to upload pics from my hard drive?

Look in the Tutorials there is a tutorial on how to post photos.

Lone Dog,
Your rifle is very nice and likely has significant value.  In order for these
folks to make any appropriate estimates, you will need to provide higher
resolution closeup photographs of following areas of the rifle.  Patchbox,
Cheek, Buttplate, Sideplate, Lock, barrel channel, trigger guard, toe plate
ramrod pipes, forestock, signature.  I saved these photos and enlarged them, but the resolution will not let me even see the signature.  We are
looking for repairwork, missing items, finish etc.   Truly, a hands on look
will provide the only accurate information.  I would recommend you take
this rifle to an expert for eval.

As mentioned above, it would be great to see some larger pictures.  There are two J. Fordney's in the virtual museum.  See link:
